Giveaway: Lent Prophecy Devotion and Calendar

Source: Mission Mama

Tomorrow is Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent. Even though I've never attended a church that officially participates in Lent, I have personally observed it in various degrees over the years.

(For more information on the hows and whys of observing Lent, read this great article from Bible Gateway.)

This year, our family is going to use the new Lent Prophecy Devotion and Calendar from Mission Mama. I'm really excited about this resource! It seems like a great way to help my family center our hearts on Jesus this Easter season.

The download includes a devotional, activities for each day of Easter week, and a beautiful calendar in the shape of a cross. I particularly appreciate the visuals and hands-on activities. I believe they will make the season more memorable for my family.

Each day, there is a reading from the devotional and the appropriate day on the calendar is marked. By Easter, the cross is completed and we celebrate that He is risen!

You can also do the centerpiece, which is a grape vine wreath and candle with toothpicks stuck in the wreath. Each day, you remove a toothpick until they are all gone on Easter morning.

The way I set it up for our family was to print and laminate the calendar at a print shop (I wanted it to look nice and wasn't sure we had enough ink) and then tape it to a new cookie sheet from the dollar store. I hooked the cookie sheet to our wall in a place that we will see it every day at dinner time. For the marker, I glued the crown graphic to a small round magnet and then hot glued a plastic valentine heart decoration over it. Turned out pretty cute!

I was concerned that the devotional would be too advanced for my 5 and under kids, but it will be just fine. Any simplifications can be done by reviewing a few minutes beforehand. The length is short and I can skip a day or two if needed without taking away from the overall experience.

The week of Easter includes some simple and memorable activities to illustrate the story of Easter.  Some of them use resurrection eggs, and I image other parts of the resurrection eggs can be incorporated wherever desired. That's my plan, anyway. ;)

BUY IT.

  1. How neat! I would love to win this to do with my kids. As I've mentioned, we don't "do Lent" at our church, but I am intrigued and would like to participate in a small way this year.

To answer your question: We do the resurrection eggs and read certain books like Benjamin's Box.

Thanks for the giveaway opportunity. Your set-up is smart and looks great!

  2. Awesome! We have never observed Lent but have thought about it and appreciated the concept. Just one of those things I'm recently learning about... We don't do anything more specific on Easter to celebrate Christ than we do on any other day. We do have a certain book that we read the night before about a boy who is saved on Easter after attending church with friends. Thanks for linking up and thanks for the giveaway!

  3. We've never observed Lent in any particular way either. And honestly, I think it makes more sense to observe it than Advent. This would be a nice resource!
