Popcorn is a common snack at our house. We use an air popper and the kids get all excited to see it in action. I usually spray some extra virgin olive oil on it and grind some sea salt over the bowl. That’s my favorite way. The kids like it plain.
A little while ago I saw a post over on Whole New Mom about using herbs de Provence on popcorn and it sounded great! Yesterday I finally rounded up all the ingredients and gave it a try. I ground them up a bit so I wouldn’t be eating leafy chunks.

1 part thyme
1 part summer savory
1/2 part lavender
1/4 part rosemary
1/2 part basil
1/4 part sage
I sprinkled this liberally over my popcorn. It was very good, but it lacked a little something. Perhaps I’m just too used to salt. I’m thinking the other recipes on Whole New Mom that use cracked fennel seed and oregano might be better for me. I’ll try those next.
But since I was at it, I decided to be creative and try something else.

Parmesan Herb Mix for Popcorn
1 part oregano
1 part thyme
1/2 part garlic salt
1 1/2 parts parmesan cheese
YUM!!! I’m a sucker for cheese. And the garlic salt with the herbs is just good stuff. I didn’t bother grinding it this time and didn’t really mind the leafy herbs. Even better: I decided to combine the two mixes and add a bit more cheese and garlic salt and it was PERFECT!
What topping do you put on your popcorn? I’d love some new ideas! I’m thinking spicy popcorn soon. 🙂
