A Sing-Song Alphabet Book for Your Kids!

My kids LOVE to read aloud every day and right before bed. Like most homeschooling families, our baskets ad bookshelves are overflowing! Finding good books that are educational, beautiful, and capture our child’s interest is a delight for us. We found all this and more when reviewing the new ABC picture book S is for Smiling Sunrise by WordsBright.

The book is hard bound and has beautiful bright illustrations throughout that my kids just love. S is for Smiling Sunrise is a unique take on the alphabet. Each page of the book as a letter along with an illustration and a fun way of remembering the letter.

For each letter, a theme that interests children is tied in with memorable rhymes and word play. For example, you’ll find inspiring themes like excellence for “X” and gifts for “G” intermixed with more common themes like rainbow for “R” or yacht for “Y.” The themes are positive and upbeat, and the words flow together nicely as you read them. In fact, you’ll probably be asked to read them over and over!

My 2, 4, and 5 year olds particularly loved reading the book. Their favorite was to snuggle up with everyone and the baby for reading time. They even looked through the pictures together when we weren’t reading it aloud or listening to it in the car. It was the first book they pulled out for Grandpa to read to them as well!

The book alone is delightful enough to hold my kids’ wonder. Add to that the music version of the text and it’s a complete hit! We listened to the CD several times in the car and the kids began to memorize it. The words of the book are sung with simple voice and music to the tune of ABC’s looping over and over since it’s so much longer than the traditional song. However, it still works well!

In addition to the book and CD, you can also get a free downloadable guide for teachers, parents, and caregivers that gives tips on how to use the book. It includes questions you can ask before or after the reading, as well as questions, vocabulary, and activity suggestions for each letter and associated rhyme/theme. For example, for the “B” is for Butterfly page, you can ask questions about the child’s experience with butterflies.
