Scripture Memory Work
It is so valuable to dedicate time in our days to memorize Scripture. You are helping your children to hide God’s Word in their hearts!
- Get some tips on how to help your kids memorize Scripture.
- Learn the benefit of memorizing longer passages with your family and tips on how to do it.
- Download Read, Pray, Love Scripture printables for Bible memory work ideas.
- Use memory work as a regular part of your efforts to teach your kids the Bible.
10 Commandments
We like to teach our kids about the 10 commandments because they point us to the character of God and to our need for a Savior! It’s a great place to start with Bible memory work.
- Start with the hand motions suggested at Future Flying Saucers. Hand motions are a great way to memorize scripture and other Bible facts.
- Enjoy a fun 10 Commandments printable to help solidify learning.
Books of the Bible
Learning the books of the Bible is incredibly helpful for your kids, especially in navigating the books daily in their personal devotion and study time as they grow. It also provides a great mental overview of the flow of the books throughout the Bible.
- Use songs for learning such as this one from Seeds Family Worship New Testament Song, this song and video (with all 66 books) from Ministry to Children, or the OT and NT songs from Classical Conversations.
- Check out this helpful video about teaching kids the books of the Bible from Parent Road Ministries!
- Make it even more fun and easy to memorize with the Books of the Bible Study Bundle. It includes several hands-on ways to learn the books of the Bible, but we especially enjoy the Bible bookshelf craft and adding to it as we read through the Bible as a family.
Featured Tool: Bible Drills
The Bible Drill resource from our sponsor Parent Road Ministries teaches kids Scripture memorization and Bible skills using video, original artwork, and a printable Study Guide (KJV, ESV, or CSB).
- Bible Drill teaches memory verses, the books of the Bible, and where to find key passages (like God’s Covenant with Abraham).
- Nancy Ruth teaches these things with memorable images & motions geared for visual and kinesthetic learners.
- Teaching videos are FREE!
- Bible Drill has a three-year teaching cycle. This year Nancy’s releasing new Blue Cycle materials.
- Bible Drill is available in KJV, ESV, or CSB.

Apostle’s Creed
We spent a whole quarter learning the Apostle’s Creed in our homeschool morning time. Such meaningful Bible memory work for us! It is a summary of the faith that connects us to our Christian heritage.
- Try this handwriting / copywork activity to learn the Apostle’s Creed (They also have an accompanying family study on the topic called Laying the Foundation).
- We really enjoyed this Apostle’s Creed Song by Adam Zarn, along with some of his other memory work songs
Catechism / Theology Questions & Answers
Another great Bible memory work idea is to learn the basics of the Christian faith using a question and answer format. This Catechism style is used in many denominations. It can also be a fun and effective way to help build a solid foundation of biblical truths in your family!
- Read about how to teach theology in a fun and engaging way.
- Learn about the catechism curriculum we use, Sound Words for Kids: Lessons in Theology.
Days of Creation
Kids love to learn the days of creation and it’s a great way to highlight God’s power and wonder! Try these ideas for learning the days of creation for Bible memory work:
- Learn the seven days of creation using fun songs like this.
- Extend the learning with a great creation printable pack!
Armor of God
All my kids (especially my three youngest boys) love the imagery of the armor of God. It has also been a helpful thing for us to remind ourselves and each other of when we are apart for a while, or when we’re stepping into a difficult day.
- Use the Armor of God printable pack to learn about this passage as you memorize it.
- Need help memorizing the passage? Use these beautiful printable cards and coloring page with the whole passage for memorizing.
- This is a fun song for the visuals, although not for memorizing as the lyrics aren’t following the Scripture strictly.
