Whether you’re doing memory work for homeschooling, family devotional time, or for you or your older child to work on independently, it is time well spent! Here are some fantastic memory work activities and resources to consider.

Scripture Memory Work

It is so valuable to dedicate time in our days to memorize Scripture. You are helping your children to hide God’s Word in their hearts!

10 Commandments

We like to teach our kids about the 10 commandments because they point us to the character of God and to our need for a Savior! It’s a great place to start with Bible memory work.

Books of the Bible

Learning the books of the Bible is incredibly helpful for your kids, especially in navigating the books daily in their personal devotion and study time as they grow. It also provides a great mental overview of the flow of the books throughout the Bible.

Apostle’s Creed

We spent a whole quarter learning the Apostle’s Creed in our homeschool morning time. Such meaningful Bible memory work for us! It is a summary of the faith that connects us to our Christian heritage.

Catechism / Theology Questions & Answers

Another great Bible memory work idea is to learn the basics of the Christian faith using a question and answer format. This Catechism style is used in many denominations. It can also be a fun and effective way to help build a solid foundation of biblical truths in your family!

Days of Creation

Kids love to learn the days of creation and it’s a great way to highlight God’s power and wonder! Try these ideas for learning the days of creation for Bible memory work:

Armor of God

All my kids (especially my three youngest boys) love the imagery of the armor of God. It has also been a helpful thing for us to remind ourselves and each other of when we are apart for a while, or when we’re stepping into a difficult day.

Download this beautifully illustrated armor of God printable pack! Great resource to teach the Scriptures and the armor of God for kids.

More Ideas for Bible Memory Work

Of course, the list above is not exhaustive. Sit down with your family and brainstorm passages, Bible facts, and other important things you want your kids to learn about their faith. Here are a few more ideas:
