A Father’s Day Gift For The Ultimate Father

Father’s Day is right around the corner. I am so glad that I had more than a Father, I had a Daddy. He has always loved me unconditionally, corrected me when I needed it, and been one of my biggest fans.

The best thing he ever did? He pointed me to a Heavenly Father that loves me unconditionally. He pointed me towards Him, and showed me how to walk with Him. So, as Father’s Day draws closer, I am thankful for my Dad, but I also feel my heart wanting to honor my heavenly Father – to give Him a gift.

But now, O Lord, you are our Father; we are the clay, and you are our potter; we are all the work of your hand. ~ Isaiah 64:8

God is the ultimate Father. He has been perfect. In a world where there are imperfect dads, we can know the perfect love of the ultimate heavenly Father. It only seems fitting on Father’s Day that I offer Him something. But what can I offer my Heavenly Abba that owns the cattle on a thousand hills?

  1. Your Heart – If you have not come into a personal relationship with the God of the universe, the very first thing He wants is your heart. He wants you to surrender your life, and in return, He will give you His. If you have given your heart to Him, He wants you to live it out for Him.
  2. Your Time – God wants your time. First, in personal time with Him. He wants you to get alone with Him every single day! One of the best ways you can tell someone you love them is by spending time with them – and God is no different! He also wants you to use your time to serve Him well.
  3. Tell Others About Him – My earthly dad is one of the most amazing men I know. He is a hero in my eyes.  I talk about him all the time. The same should be true for our ultimate hero, and ultimate Daddy, God our Father. We need to tell others about Him. About how unconditionally He loves, His amazing forgiveness and His redeeming grace.

The idea is simple – God wants our life. He wants us to spend every day with Him, not just Father’s Day. Yet, we can use this day as an opportunity to do more than just go to church and worship Him – we can choose to make today a day that we focus on living our lives as worship to Him.
