It is such an important thing that we listen to wisdom – the wisdom of the Lord and of the wise people He brings into our lives! The same is true for our children. If we want them to grow in the ways of the Lord they need to learn to listen to us, to wise mentors, and ultimately to the Word of God. Hardening our hearts against the teaching of the Lord brings nothing but foolishness and unwise choices. Let’s pray for a teachable heart with these scriptures for ourselves and our loved ones!
Will you join me in praying for a teachable heart?
Here are some wonderful scriptures to pray through on being teachable! The first four are included in the printable provided here.
All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 2 Timothy 3:16
For the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and chastises every son whom he receives. Hebrews 12:6
Likewise, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” 1 Peter 5:5
Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it. Proverbs 22:6
Poverty and disgrace come to him who ignores instruction, but whoever heeds reproof is honored. Proverbs 13:18
And we impart this in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the Spirit, interpreting spiritual truths to those who are spiritual. The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned. 1 Corinthians 2:13-14
Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser; teach a righteous man, and he will increase in learning. Proverbs 9:9
Get wisdom; get insight; do not forget, and do not turn away from the words of my mouth. Proverbs 4:5
My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world. And by this we know that we have come to know him, if we keep his commandments. Whoever says “I know him” but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him, but whoever keeps his word, in him truly the love of God is perfected. By this we may know that we are in him: … 1 John 2:1-29
